The PENKOTED® Seed Technology was developed by Pennington in the early 1960’s to aid seed in becoming mature plants. |
The exclusive Pennington Seed® Penkoted® Seed Technology literally seals each seed with a protective fungicide. This technology protects each seed while in the ground and improves its ability to grow into a healthy plant, resulting in a thick, beautiful lawn. Homeowners have found seed with the Penkoted® Seed Technology to be more reliable and effective than using conventional uncoated seed.
A single lot of tall fescue seed was divided into equal parts. One part was PENKOTED®, the other was left uncoated The seeds were then planted in the six planter boxes shown.
Pythium* Level One would be the level found in a consumer's lawn that we would rate as a moderate infestation.
Pythium Level Five would be a heavy infestation on a lawn.
Pythium Level Eight is a laboratory environment where the Pythium level would be several times greater than one would normally expect to find in a natural environment.
Notice the dramatic difference in growth and stand survivability between the PENKOTED® and uncoated seed.
*Pythium is a fungus found in soil. Pythium often attacks young grass seedlings and can severely damage an entire stand of new grass.
PENKOTED® and uncoated seed were grown in a petri dish in a laboratory environmnet. Note the halo of protection around the PENKOTED® seed with the growth of fungus outside the halo. Laboratory proof of the effectiveness of PENKOTED® seed against fungus.
This picture indicates the stand survivability of tall fescue seed that has been PENKOTED® versus the same lot of tall fescue that was not coated. Note the increased survivability of the PENKOTED® seed over the uncoated seed.
